Today is my birthday and I was so glad I got to spend a portion of it with Kristen Peavy Davis. Sometimes the best way to celebrate for yourself is celebrating with someone else and that was so true for me today!

Today we got to celebrate new beginnings.

Kristen is getting a house! TOMORROW! eeeek I can’t wait! We decided to take a picture of the before and after… but not just any picture. One that truly represented the Kristen I’ve come to know and love over the last 2 years.

A wife, a mother, a woman of God who is strong and courageous. She encompasses beauty and grace; love and forgiveness.

March 29, 2012 seems like forever ago but I won’t ever forget that call we received in the movie theater. A group of us were out when we heard that Kristen’s husband, Johnathon Frank Davis was killed in action in Afghanistan.

We all rushed out of the theater and immediately to Kristen’s mother’s house where we found an 8-month pregnant Kristen, completely devastated. As we all sat around her, and cried, sharing the tears and feeling the pain of the loss of her love, I won’t forget the question she kept asking: “What am I supposed to do? I don’t even know what to do..”

My mom was there with us and rubbing her knee she told her: “You don’t have to have any answers today. It’s one step at a time. We’ll take one step at a time.”

That’s exactly what happened.

When my mom said “we” I had no idea that would not only mean our family, our church and our community– but people around the country who heard Kristen’s story and were touched by her husband’s ultimate sacrifice.

People called, people came and people gave– all in true thankfulness.

Square Foot Ministries is just one of those amazing groups who’ve reached out to help our Kristen.

They are building little Benjamin Johnathon and Kristen a house tomorrow and we are all extremely excited to be part of that volunteer team!

If you’d like to be part of the team, you can call First Assembly of God and sign up. There will be shifts throughout the days and weeks to come!:)

Thank you to all who’ve helped so far and especially to Matt Bodden who came to assist me today. Love you!
